Here's a fun one from the wreckers' catalogues: flared and non-flared Tritons take literally different factory rear flaps. Different part numbers, different mounts — the listings spell out "with flares type" because getting it wrong means the flap doesn't bolt up. So "one flap fits all Tritons" was never true, even from Mitsubishi.
We skip that game entirely. If you've got a GLS or GSR tub — GSR with the black flares — there's no flat guard face back there anyway, so it runs the Flappie Frame: 300mm wide, adjustable 205–255mm drop, hangs off the body and doesn't care which flare package you ticked. $100 a pair, printed frame-cut sets $110. GLX tray-backs — the flap fits the tray, not the badge
Cab-chassis GLX and GLX+ Tritons wear a dealer or builder tray, and here generation genuinely doesn't matter. ML, MN, MQ, MR or the new MV — the flap bolts inside the tray guard, not to the ute, so the year on your rego means nothing to the tape measure. Sizes: 4x2 fleet spec, 235×255mm, $90 a set. 4x4 on stock tyres: 270×300mm steel/factory guards or 300×280mm alloy builds, $115. Bigger rubber: 300×350mm ($145) or 350×450mm ($225).

Do Flappies fit a GSR with the flares?+
Yes — the GSR is a tub, so it runs the Flappie Frame (300mm wide, 205–255mm adjustable drop, $100 a pair). Factory flap part numbers literally differ between flared and non-flared Tritons — which is exactly why an adjustable frame beats a bolt-in flap on tubs.
What size for a GLX tray-back?+
4x4 on stock tyres: 270×300mm on steel/factory tray guards or 300×280mm on alloy builds ($115). 4x2: 235×255mm ($90). On 33s and up: 300×350mm ($145) or 350×450mm ($225). The tape measure inside the guard has final say.
Does the generation matter — MQ vs MR vs the new MV?+
For tray-backs, no — the flap fits the tray guard, not the ute, so measure inside the guard and you're done. For tubs, the frame spans every generation because it hangs off the body with an adjustable drop.
Are mud flaps required on a tray Triton?+
Every wheel needs an effective wheelguard, and on trays the flap usually completes it — WA guidance puts the lowest edge around 230mm off the ground (300mm for off-road builds). Check your state's rules.
