D-MAX underneath, but the wagon body changes the answer

The MU-X is built off the D-MAX, so half the internet assumes D-MAX flaps are the answer. They're not — the D-MAX carries a tub or a tray, and the MU-X carries seven seats. No tub, no tray, no flat guard face means sized bolt-in flaps have nothing to bolt into.

What fits every MU-X, 2013 through today, is the Flappie Frame: 300mm wide, adjustable 205–255mm drop, mounted off the body. Frames are $100 a pair, printed frame-cut sets $110, and once the frames are on, swapping to a new design takes minutes. One product, both generations, no fitment fine print.

Lifted for touring? That's exactly when the factory flaps give up

Shared platform, shared problem: the MU-X's factory flaps are little mouldings up in the arch, and after a two-inch lift and bigger rubber they hang uselessly high — it's such a known issue that the 4x4 aftermarket built dedicated replacement products around it. The frame's adjustable drop just puts coverage back at the height your build actually needs.

And let's be honest about who's buying: MU-X plus van is the classic grey-nomad rig. A wide flap behind the rear wheels is caravan paint insurance — every stone it catches is one that doesn't star in a repair quote at the next town with a panel shop.

Fair warning from the MU-X crowd

First-gen owners are out there buying used factory flaps from wreckers because dedicated options dried up — paying secondhand money for someone else's worn rubber. A fresh printed frame-cut set costs about the same and isn't ten years old. If your setup's unusual, send us a photo before you order.

Right, now the fun part

Frames on, van shielded, lift covered — all that's left is picking the design the van park gets to judge you by.

MU-X questions, answered

Do Flappies fit an Isuzu MU-X?+

Yep — no tray and no tub means the MU-X runs the adjustable Flappie Frame: 300mm wide with a 205–255mm drop, $100 a pair plus $110 printed frame-cut sets. Covers 2013 through the current model with the same hardware.

Are MU-X flaps the same as D-MAX flaps?+

Same platform, different answer. The D-MAX carries a tub or tray, so it takes sized flaps or frames depending on the setup — the MU-X has neither, so it's frames every time.

My MU-X is lifted for touring — will flaps still cover?+

Yes — that's what the adjustable drop is for. The factory arch flaps are what stop working after a lift; the frame sets its drop between 205 and 255mm, so coverage lands where your build needs it.

I tow a caravan — do these help with stone damage?+

That's the main event. A wide flap behind the rear wheels is the standard stone-protection move for tow rigs — the frame gives you that coverage plus a printed design instead of plain black rubber.
